Hi neighbours! I’m Morgaine.
I’ve spent over a decade working at the intersection of learning, service, and community. I’m focused on empowering people with access to information, voice, and opportunity.
I fell into library services almost by accident — and fell in love with it immediately. My days were a mix of helping with school registrations, job searches, tax forms, and immigration papers, with moments set aside for storytime. Every part of it felt meaningful and connected to someone’s life.
That experience showed me how fine the line can be between struggle and success, and how close each of us can come to that line if we don’t have a supportive community around us. The greatest thing about serving on Central Elgin’s council is being able to be a part of that support network for my 13, 000 neighbours every day.
My family has been farming in former Yarmouth Township for generations.
I feel centred raising my kids where all our family is around us – cousins, grandparents, friends who have known us since before they were born. They’re learning that our lives are connected.
Waiting at the end of the road with my neighbours for the bus is a daily reminder of the places and experiences that tie all our children together. I feel so proud when my kids can see the good work council is doing and the ways it touches the lives of their friends and family.
I hope my kids will grow up here seeing all the good their community brings to their lives — and understanding how they can give back.

I decided to run for council because I wanted residents to feel connected — to have a council they could reach, question, and trust. My mission has always been to put knowledge and access in every neighbour’s hands.
I want residents to feel that they understand what we get done for them; that they can advocate for what they care about in ways that work; and that they can find and use the processes that move their community forward.
Leadership, to me, is about planning ahead — not waiting for problems to grow before acting. I’m proud of my recent motions advocating for community food gardens and public transit to St. Thomas. Expanding transit before the need overwhelms us means our seniors stay connected and our new workers at PowerCo can get where they need to go. Striving to provide these services, that’s proactive, people-first leadership.
As both a teacher and councillor, I’m especially excited this year to see shovels in the ground the new school in Belmont. It’s something families have waited on for years, and I know firsthand how much difference it will make for the kids who’ll walk through those doors.
I ran to be part of a council that listens and engages — and every day, I try to be that councillor.
