The earth didn’t form with borders, people drew them. That’s why policies about the earth sometimes colour outside the lines.
The US administration is firing EPA agents responsible for keeping water clean in the Great Lakes. These are people responsible to keep farm and industrial waste out of our lakes. Lakes that we share. Lakes without neat lines down their middles where e. coli and other contaminants will stop.
Since Walkerton, Ontario municipal councillors have been personally legally responsible for clean water in our municipalities. We take safety very seriously. 60% of this province drinks from the Great Lakes every day, and now we can’t trust what’s going into our water on the other shore.
Every mayor and councillor in Ontario should be up in arms. You should be angry, too. If the water quality drops, it will be us, the municipalities and rate payers in Ontario, who will bear the financial burden of taking additional safety measures.
What else should you be angry about? I posted this to Facebook twice last night, and both times, it disappeared. Government and people need to be able to share with each other on social media to allow others to join the conversation, but that only works if we can trust our platforms not to screen legitimate criticisms.
