In Defense of Homeless Ontarians

On October 31st, 13 Ontario mayors signed a letter to Premier Doug Ford, asking him to use the notwithstanding clause to suspend the charter rights of homeless Ontarians and allow municipalities to clear out homeless encampments, even when they have no alternative shelter to provide, citing American precedent and disregarding a Superior Court of Justice ruling.

Today, I stand with 40 other councillors from across Ontario, asking that the mayors rescind their letter to the Premier. We need evidence-based solutions to homelessness that respect human rights and dignity.
